SPEAK! # 1

"What is your best asset?"- Everytime I hear this question, the very first thing that will strike into my mind is beauty contest. I don't know why but it seems to be very common in any beauty contests or in any Question and Answer shows. Is it because the judges and the audience want to know what would be the contestant's strongest part or the most attractive part in them that would capture the attention of the people and make them different from the others? Or is it just the judges ran out of questions that are more challenging?

Well, for me, when we were asked by our English 2 teacher to write all about our best asset, I got a little bit shocked and confused because I really don't know what's my best asset. It's as if I was on a stage with a spotlight focused on me and asked by one of the judges what would be my best asset and I can't even say a single word. I really don't know what to write! So, what I did was I asked some of my friends and my parents what do they think is my best asset. My friends told me that my loud voice is my best asset because every time there will be an announcement, they will ask me to tell it to the class because for them, they could clearly hear and understand what the announcement is all about. Some of my high school friends also told me that my speaking skills is my best asset because every time there will be an event or a program in our school, our teacher will ask me to be the emcee of the said event. Sometimes, they will also ask me to join some speaking contests like oration, "talumpati" competition and even radio broadcasting. My parents told me that my biggest asset is my interpersonal relationship with others. They told me that I can mingle with other people with different personalities. They also told me that I can gain friends easily because of the way I mingle and communicate with them. They also told me that I can make people happy because of my sense of humor.

Well, they are all right. I have a loud voice, I can speak well (but, I am still on a process of enhancing and developing it :D), and I can socialize with other people without any hesitation. So, to sum up all their answers, I can say that being an articulate would probably be my best of the best assets that my friends and my family told me. Why? It is because I can speak to others intelligibly. I can express my thoughts and my feelings to them clearly. If not in the English language then in Filipino or in the vernacular where other people can fully understand what I am talking about. I used my speaking skills in gaining respect from others and in making strong relationship with others.

It is really important that you can freely speak and express yourself to others so that they can understand you and respect you for who you are. Always remember,

"To speak and to speak well are two things. A fool may talk, but a wise man speaks."
